Aims

1. To familiarize students with necessary skills and requirements for basic interpreting in consecutive modes.

2. To enable the students to master words, expressions and sentence patterns related to a variety of subject matters such as cultural exchanges, science and technology, political and diplomatic issues etc.

3. To provide the students with a better understanding of China’s basic policies and domestic situation as well as knowledge of political, economic and cultural features of other countries.

Learning Outcomes

1. Learn the basic principles for oral interpreting, skills and coping tactics for basic consecutive interpreting, characteristics of oral interpreting of different subject matters including ways of interpreting subject-related words and expressions.

2. Learn China ’s basic policies and domestic situations, and history, politics, economy and culture of some leading countries in America and Europe .

Teaching and Learning

Lecture and presentations by the teacher will be integrated with students centered in-class activities including interpreting tasks and exercises, independent, group and pair work. A number of lectures will be held on the topics introduced in class.
