This trip to the 19th ‘FLTRP CUP’ National English Debating Competition (the South of China) was very impressive. Thanks to my tutors and my partner’s help, our team got the Third Prize. I’m very grateful. Guangzhou was attractive and the competition was wonderful.
We had a mock round on the first night which shocked me a lot because I found that my opponents had a lot of evidence and I was sure they had prepared a lot. The official competitions depressed me because our team was left behind. It was depressing but not surprising for me, because I knew I was a freshman and I didn’t work hard enough. I could accept the results from the bottom of my heart.
Here are some of my own special experiences. On round 1, a competitor from another school clapped for me when I was putting forward my points, I was encouraged. After round 3, the champion found me and said I was very calm on the stage. We expressed our admiration for each other, shared our Wechat ID’s, and became friends.
I think the first thing I need to do is to enrich my vocabulary so that I can make my points clearer. Secondly, I think I need to do more brainstorming to make my mind open to ideas. Paying more attention to news is also helpful for improving my debating because I will get more evidences.
“No pain no gain.” Anyway, it was a nice trip and a nice competition.
