Freshmen Premiere at National English Debating Competition (South China) and Win the 3rd Prize

The 19^th “FLTRP Cup” National English Debating Competition (the South of China) was held in Southern Medical University from May 6^th to 8^th, 2016. Two freshmen majoring in English, Chen Yang and Hu Yadi, accompanied by Coach Zheng Guanwen, participated in the competition and won the third prize.

Both students stood out in the campus trial in April, and got the opportunity to the regional on behalf of the university. To enhance their debating skills, several training programs were initiated by Prof. Gong Fanyuan, foreign teachers Mike and Andy, together with Lin Lili and Zheng Guanwen. After 3 days’ stressful rounds, they made a name for themselves. What’s more, the coach Zheng Guanwen passed the adjudication test and acted as an adjudicator for the competition, hopefully to offer more guidance for future competitors.

120 universities, with 1 coach and 2 debaters each, participated in the South China regional. Every contest consists of 8 debaters (4 teams), each having 7 minutes to defend their argument in the mock round and another 5 rounds.
