Recently,five teachers including Dean Gong of our Department came to Yango University to attend the 1st Seminar on How to Run Business English as a Major in the Colleges and Universities of Fujian Province. It was sponsored by the College Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association of Fujian Province and was hosted by Yango University . Nearly 100 experts and scholars, teaching backbones and representatives attended the seminar.
On the morning of the seminar, Professor Ye Xingguo of Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, Professor Lin Dajin, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Fujian Normal University, and Professor Wu Songjiang, Director of the College Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association of Fujian Province kicked off at the opening ceremony. Professor Ye Xingguo made a speech on a topic of “ How to Innovate Business English Translation Teaching in Current New Situations", and analyzed the influences of the CAT on translation teaching through the application of artificial intelligence. He mentioned there’s a great demand for high-end business translation talents currently. Here it was worth mentioning that our teachers had a nice exchange of views with him and expressed our wish to visit him later to learn from him and we received warm response from him(a photo attached below). After that Professor Lin Mingjin of Fujian Normal University gave a speech on a topic on “ How to Cultivate the Core Learning Ability of the Business English Students". He emphasized the importance of critical reading and thinking. Then Professor Lin Lihua of Yango University introduced their practices and teaching reforms of their applied business English professional training programs, and she also mentioned their successful cooperation with Xiamen Yixue Software Co., Ltd.
On the afternoon of that day, three teachers from Fujian International and Economic College, Putian University and Zhicheng College of Fuzhou University respectively shared their own experiences on how to run Business English as a major. Besides some heads and experts discussed the establishment of the International Business English Teaching and Research Association of Fujian Province. All expressed the necessity.
The seminar provides our department some new ideas and inspiration for how to run Business English as a major and how to get ready the teaching team as well as how to train professionals of Business English. It is certain that the seminar will be a cornerstone in the history of running Business English as a major in Fujian Province.
