The Seventh National Interpreting Contest in Fujian Province Saw Two CLC Students Try Their Best

Time:May 9, 2018 Source:

The Contest was held in Fujian Medical University on April 22, 2018. It was sponsored by Fujian Branch of Language Service Competence Assessment and Training (LSCAT) of Translators Association of China and hosted by Xiamen Master Translation Service Co., Ltd and Fujian Medical University.

The contest consists of two sections of consecutive interpreting from English into Chinese and from Chinese into English, and an elimination system was adopted. There were 48 undergraduate and postgraduate contestants from different universities in Fujian rivaling in the contest this time.

Two students majoring in English Education from the College of Languages and Cultures (CLC) of Ningde Normal Univeristy participated in the fierce competition. They are Chen Yuqian and Chen Yang. Before the contest, they were encouraged to keep in mind that participation and experience matter more. They tried their best to display their capacity and both got a third prize.

Participating in the contest not only provides a stage for the students to show themselves, but also helps them nurture their courage and confidence, and gain a deeper understanding of their own oral expressiveness and interpreting level. It also helps interpreting teachers encourage more students to be interested and to aim higher at their learning goal in interpreting.

Chen Yuqian's Reflection on The Interpreting Contest

As an old saying goes, "No pains, no gains". You obtain nothing unless you give it a shot and make an effort. This weekend, as a junior student, I participated in the interpreting contest held in Fujian Medical University. Encouraged by my teachers and roommates, I have made up my mind to show my strength this time. Fortunately, I won the third prize.

Chance only favors the prepared mind. After the contest, I realize that I still have a long way to go. In the days to come, I will work harder to catch up with other excellent students.

For me, I will regard this contest as a precious experience in my life. I will get well prepared to take more challenges in the future. I firmly believe that I can do better next time.

Chen Yang's Reflection on The Interpreting Contest

The participation to the 2018 Interpreting Competition of Fujian was very impressive. Thanks for my teacher’s help for months, I got the Third Prize. I am very grateful.

It was a nice trip and I really learned a lot. I think taking part in a competition is like playing a game which you can gain a lot of knowledge which is hard to obtain elsewhere. Because only when you are on the arena can you truly get the feeling of the competition. So I surely cherish this time to take part in the contest so that I can learn more about interpreting.

No pain no gain. If I call this trip a try, then next time I will be more serious. I will work harder.
