The final qualification competition of the Sixth National Interpreting Contest in Fujian Province was held in Xiamen Jimei University on April 15,2017. It was sponsored by Fujian Branch of Language Service Competence Assessment and Training (LSCAT) of Translators Association of China and hosted by Xiamen Master Translation Service Co., Ltd and Xiamen Jimei University .

The contest consisted of two sections of consecutive interpreting from English into Chinese and from Chinese into English, and an elimination system was adopted. There were 53 contestants of undergraduates and postgraduates from different universities in Fujian rivaling in the contest this time.

The Foreign Language Department of Ningde Normal University sent two students to the fierce competition. They are Jiang Xinmei and Guo Yanyan. It was clear before the contest that there was a slim chance for them to shine in the competition, yet they were encouraged to go ahead bravely and to keep in mind that participation and experience matter more. Therefore at the competition they tried their best to display their capacity and did a fairly good job.

Participating in the contest not only provides a stage for the students to show themselves, but also helps them nurture their courage and confidence, and gain a deeper understanding of their own oral expressiveness and interpreting level. It also made Shirley, an interpreting teacher,  come up with an idea to host a larger interpreting competition for the students in our own university with a hope to encourage more students to be interested and to aim higher at their interpreting learning goal.
